MELODIS is a search and sound recognition company based in Silicon Valley, California. At MELODIS we invent our own intellectual property. Our company has a proven track record in pioneering new technologies and then building products that utilize these technologies. Some of our current core technologies include speech search, singing and humming Search, original music identification (grab search), and text search.

Our first worldwide product is midomi, a unique search engine that allows people to search for music by singing and humming, one of the most challenging problems in sound recognition. MELODIS met this challenge by creating new search technologies that return fast, accurate results, and by utilizing user contributions to build the most comprehensive database of searchable music in the world. Today midomi is used by millions of people to search for music in over 33 languages using the Web and mobile devices.

MELODIS’s next major innovation was Grab Search, a technology that allows users to identify a song they hear on the radio by holding their mobile phone to the music. Our newest version of this technology is the most accurate in the world and beats any other solution in real-world environments.

Enhanced speech search is our latest accomplishment. Because existing speech-to-text and dictation technologies are not suitable for speech search, we developed a new technology called the MELODIS Crystal Decoder. Optimized for speech search applications, the Crystal Decoder eliminates the need for speech-to-text conversion. In addition to providing higher speed, accuracy and scalability, our Crystal Decoder will enable new speech search applications that were not possible before.

MELODIS’s R&D strategy is driven by our strong belief in the future of mobile Internet. With the ubiquity of mobile devices that are carried around by everyone, availability of higher bandwidth and rise in Web 2.0 information and services, mobile devices are becoming  far more important than traditional PCs as Internet communication devices. MELODIS’s goal is to enhance the user interface for mobile Internet devices by enabling the simplest, most natural interface of all: the user’s own voice.
